Trucker Leaves Critical Evidence Behind in Hit and Run
Duarte, CA – The driver of a tractor-trailer lost control and slammed into an apartment building near Los Angeles Friday morning, leaving behind not only a path of destruction, but also his trailer.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LACSD) responded to a call on Huntington Drive around 12:30 a.m. Friday morning.
LACSD reported the driver of the semi lost control and crashed into a parked vehicle, a tree, and an apartment complex.
The impact of the semi and the apartment building caused significant damage to a wall and a garage, investigators said.
It also wiped out the mailbox belonging to the complex.
“I look out the window and I see a huge truck barricaded into the house,” neighbor Waheed Karim told CBS2. “I saw the whole thing.”
While the driver may have fled the scene, he left some very interesting (and possibly incriminating) items behind: his damaged trailer and the tractor’s windshield.
“It basically was struggling real hard to get out, and then it left its trailer behind and just drove off,” Karim exclaimed.
NBC Los Angeles described the wrecked trailer’s condition as “crumpled like an oversized accordion, against a tree.”
LACSD concluded when the driver left the scene, he headed eastbound on Huntington Drive.
One witness told a local reporter he saw the semi-driver “hanging out of the window.”
Thankfully, there were no reported injuries.
The police have ruled the incident a hit-and-run.
