Trucker Killed When Rig Plunges Off Of Overpass After 4-Wheeler Cut Him Off

South El Monte, California – Two people were killed, including the driver of a semi, this morning in a fiery crash along an overpass on I-60. The crash occurred at 4:30 a.m. as the semi and a BMW were traveling eastbound. A witness says the BMW made a hasty maneuver and pulled in front of the big rig and ‘blared his horn.’ The big rig was unable to stop and then rear-ended the BMW sending both vehicles plunging off of the overpass onto the roadway below. Both vehicles immediately erupted into flames.

Sgt. Eddie Perez of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) was quick to use this tragic incident to better educate the public about the dangers of not properly respecting tractor-trailers. “That’s what a lot of motorists don’t understand – they cannot stop as easily as a vehicle does,” he said. “So for them to slow their speeds down, to try to avoid or swerve, it’s almost nearly impossible – especially if it’s dark, it happens to be in front of them. So they can’t easily maneuver around as, let’s say, a simple four-door sedan would,” said Perez.

Another witness shot video and took to Twitter to share these scenes from the wreckage.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said. Their bodies were burned beyond recognition, so first responders could not determine whether they were male or female.
