Trucker Dies After Pickup Truck Driver Cuts Him Off At Traffic Light
Monroe Township, Michigan – A 54-year-old truck driver was killed Monday morning when a pickup truck driver suddenly and swiftly changed lanes in front of his flatbed semi truck causing a deadly crash in Monroe Township.
Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers were called to the fatal scene at 6:36 a.m. Monday and discovered a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of South Custer and Herr roads, officials said.
Police said a semi truck, a pickup truck and a passenger vehicle crashed while traveling east on South Custer Road. The semi was in the right lane and the passenger vehicle was ahead of the pickup truck in the left lane, authorities said.
The passenger vehicle stopped for the red light at Herr Road and the pickup swerved into the right lane, MSP said. The semi hit the back of the pickup truck, causing the semi’s load of steel rods to smash into the cab fatally striking the driver, according to officials.
The semi truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Trenton to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
MSP says the crash is still under investigation and is urging anyone who might have been a witness to the crash to contact them at 734-242-3500.
