Truck Driver Under Investigation In Fatal Hit-And-Run

Lawrence County, Pennsylvania – A truck driver is under investigation after police say the big rig he was operating fatally struck a woman as she exited her vehicle which was parked in front of a residence in Taylor Township last Sunday night.

According to New Castle Police Chief Robert Salem, 19-year-old Alissa Jones was struck by a big rig while exiting a vehicle parked on Center Avenue near Seventh Street in Taylor Township.

The fatal accident occurred at approximately 11 p.m. on Sunday, according to officials.

Jones was flown by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth in Youngstown, but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday.

Authorities said the driver of the semi-truck fled the scene.

Chief Salem confirmed the driver of the tractor-trailer involved in the wreck has since been identified and his vehicle impounded.

However, the driver’s identity has not yet been released.

No charges have yet been filed, but Chief Salem said the investigation is ongoing.
