Truck Driver Shot During Robbery Attempt At Manufacturing Facility

Birmingham, Alabama – A truck driver was reportedly shot Friday morning as he was waiting to deliver a load to a manufacturing facility in Birmingham.

Authorities were dispatched at 3:54 a.m. to the American Cast Iron Pipe Company at 1501 31st Ave. N.

When officials arrived they discovered a truck driver, only described by police as a white male, who was suffering from a gun shot wound to the leg.

North Precinct Capt. James Jackson said the truck driver said he was standing outside of his truck waiting to get into the facility when he was approached by at least two black males in a robbery attempt.

Capt. Jackson said the truck driver resisted and began to retreat by climbing back into his truck.

That’s when Capt. Jackson said the truck driver was shot once in the leg as the suspects fled the scene.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated.

The suspects are still at-large and the investigation is ongoing.

In a statement, Capt. Jackson said, “We take this very seriously.’’
