Truck Driver Killed Helping Stranded Motorist

Las Vegas, NV – A truck driver hauling for FedEx Ground was struck and killed Thursday night after stopping to lend assistance to a motorist whose car was on fire along Las Vegas Boulevard.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) the accident occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Las Vegas Boulevard south of Via Inspirada.

Investigators said a 1993 Chevrolet Corvette was disabled and parked in the dirt shoulder when it caught fire.

A FedEx tractor-trailer was heading south when the driver saw the fire and pulled onto the shoulder.

The 58-year-old FedEx driver exited the truck with a fire extinguisher in hand.

He was fatally hit by a fully loaded mixer truck as he crossed the road, according to NHP.

His identity has not yet been released.

The driver of the mixer truck stayed at the scene, and impairment does not appear to be a factor, NHP said.
