Truck Driver Found Shot To Death In Parking Lot Near Big Rig

Gaston, North Carolina – A truck driver was found shot to death in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant late Monday night in Gaston, North Carolina.

Gaston Police Chief C.L. Dixon confirmed 67-year-old truck driver Robert Pane Hale, of Halifax County, NC was found shot to death at approximately 11:30 p.m. in the parking lot of a Hardee’s restaurant in Gaston.

Dixon said deputies at a stop light nearby heard a single gunshot and drove to the scene.

 

When they arrived they discovered Hale’s body on the ground between his personal vehicle and a tractor-trailer owned by Wilson, NC-based Barnes Transportation.

Investigators said it was unclear what Hale was doing there and who else was with him at the time of the shooting.

Police are also unclear as to the motive of the shooting.

Dixon said, “All his personal belongings were accounted for as far as we know,” according to a report by local news outlet rrspin.com.

The Hardee’s was closed at the time of the deadly incident, but investigators are seeking security surveillance video.

Additionally, authorities report Barnes Transportation representatives are working to provide investigators with digital video footage from the Freightliner’s on-board video-equipped system.

 

Chris Henry, a Barnes Transportation representative would not comment on the ongoing investigation, but did say, “Our hearts go out to the family and all involved.”

Chief Dixon said he expected the results of an autopsy to provide more clues about what happened to Hale.
