Truck Driver Attacked At TA Travel Center Over Parking Space
Sumter County, Florida – A truck driver was asleep in his rig when he was attacked over a parking space last Sunday night at the TA Travel Center on State Road 44 in Wildwood, according to a report from villages-news.com.
According to an arrest warrant, 51-year-old Brian James Cozzie of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, began pounding on the door of the truck cab and demanding the truck driver to move. The trucker was parked across two spaces, but refused to oblige the screaming Cozzie.
Officials say that’s when Cozzie smashed a cab window and then appeared to reach for a gun in his waistband. The truck driver grabbed his own gun and fired a warning shot into the air to repel Cozzie from entering his truck.
Police were called to the scene and subsequently arrested Cozzie for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon which is a third-degree felony in Florida. He was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center on $25,000 bond.
It’s yet another troubling attack on a truck driver at a truck stop. Transportation Nation Network will bring you new information on this story as it becomes available.
