Penske Logistics To Lay Off 80 Employees, “Mostly” Truck Drivers
Fort Wayne, Indiana – Pennsylvania-based Penske Logistics has notified 80 employees of their impending layoff according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
In a Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification (WARN) letter dated May 18, the company says it plans to close its facility located at 22150 W. Pleasant Ridge, Bldg. 2, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Company executives said the closure will affect 80 employees and the terminations will be permanent.
The terminations are scheduled to begin on July 20, 2019.
In an email to IndianaBusiness.com, a company representative said of those who will be terminated, “The majority of the associates are truck drivers.”
Additionally, the Penske representative told the local business news outlet “a recent local trucking contract termination” led to the WARN notice and “Penske Logistics is working to identify other potential employment opportunities for these employees at other locations within the company.”
The WARN notice also stated there will not be any “bumping” rights for the affected employees.
