Jury Hands Down Sentence To Truck Driver Who Smuggled 13,000 Pounds Of Marijuana Into U.S.

Tuscon, Arizona – Truck driver Enrique Valencia-Lopez has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison for his role in a drug smuggling operation.

Valencia-Lopez was stopped at the Mariposa Port of Entry in Nogales in May 2017. U.S. Customs and Border Protection discovered hundreds of wrapped bundles of marijuana totaling more than 13,000 pounds in Valencia-Lopez’s tractor trailer he drove into Arizona.

Prosecutors say a jury found Enrique Valencia-Lopez guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute 1,000 kilograms or more of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, conspiracy to import marijuana, and importation of marijuana.
