Marion, Ohio – Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) highway crew members got quite a scare from a big rig on Thursday, May 9.
According to an ODOT Facebook post, a tractor-trailer slammed into a heavy duty and a pickup work truck along U.S. 23 on Thursday morning.
Crew members were “pothole patching” at the time the big rig barreled into the ODOT equipment, according to officials.
It is unclear what caused the truck driver to plow into ODOT’s equipment.
However, in a Facebook post on Monday, May 20, ODOT officials confirmed the driver of the semi was cited for distracted driving and violating the Move Over law.
Additionally, ODOT released video footage from the incident from the dash cam of the work truck that was struck by the big rig.
Thankfully, no one was injured as workers were remarkably able to get out of the way in time.
The incident certainly could have been much worse though.
ODOT posted pictures from the scene showing the extensive damage caused to all the vehicles and equipment involved, including the tractor-trailer.
Additionally, ODOT officials took the occasion to remind commercial drivers, as well as motorists, that moving over and slowing down isn’t just the law, but it also saves lives.
“‘Move Over Slow Down’ isn’t just a slogan to us, it’s the lives of our ODOT family,” the post reads.
