Flatbedder Wanted by Police After Allegedly Leaving the Scene of Deadly Crash

Southhampton Township, PA – A truck driver is wanted by Pennsylvania police after he allegedly left the scene of a fatal crash earlier this week along I-81.

The deadly crash occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Monday, November 4, near mile marker 27.2 along southbound I-81.

According to investigators, a white Toyota Sienna with four occupants was traveling in the right lane when it attempted to pass a red semi-truck pulling an unloaded flatbed trailer, which was traveling in the left lane.

After passing the big rig, the driver of the minivan, Daminiben D. Patel, 24, attempted to enter the left lane in front of the semi-truck.

However, investigators say the minivan did not have safe clearance which resulted in the Sienna’s rear driver side becoming pinned under the big rig’s passenger side.

After the vehicles separated, officials say Patel lost control of the minivan causing it to rollover.

Two occupants were ejected.

One of them, Manjulaben Patel, 64, of Abingdon, Virginia, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Passenger Mangubhai R. Patel, 67, was seriously injured, while Daminiben Patel and an unnamed passenger suffered minor injuries, police said.

Only the driver of the minivan was wearing a seat belt.

According to investigators, the trucker involved in the crash continued along I-81 and did not stop to render aid or exchange insurance information.

Police have since released a photo (above) of the rig believed to be involved in the crash.

The trucker is wanted for questioning.

Police are asking anyone with information about this accident to contact Trooper Smith at PSP Carlisle at 717-249-2121.
