Dash Cam Captures Scary Rollover Crash After Trucker’s “Unsafe Lane Change”

Houston, Texas – Police say a trucker’s unsafe lane change led to a terrifying rollover crash along Interstate 290 in Houston on Tuesday, and it was all captured on a dash cam.

According to investigators, the accident happened around mid-day as a tractor-trailer and a Ford Focus were traveling along Interstate 290 east.

Video shows the big rig begin to change lanes and strike the Ford Focus near the rear of the driver’s side causing it to lose control and careen across the interstate and into an SUV.

The SUV then loses control and rolls three times along the roadway as the Ford Focus spins to a stop.

The big rig continues on.

However, police say the truck driver told investigators he never saw the Ford Focus because it was in his blind spot.

The tractor-trailer driver was ticketed for changing lanes when unsafe, a Class C misdemeanor.

Police said two people inside the SUV were taken to a nearby hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Amazingly, no one else reported injuries.

Sgt. Thomas Fendia, with the Houston Police Department’s Vehicle Crimes Division, spoke to local news outlet Click2Houston about the crash and says motorists should drive defensively around 18-wheelers.

“You never know when somebody else is going to change lanes. You always want to drive defensively, especially around commercial motor vehicles. These are thousand-ton vehicles traveling down the road,” Fendia said.

“My first reaction when I see an 18-wheeler is to always keep, like I said, distance from them. I either drive behind them in the lane next to them or in front of them,” he explained.
