Not-So-Fast Mr. PresidentFind out why trucking industry leaders are pushing back against President Trump.

January 24, 2018

Not-So-Fast Mr. President

Well, that didn’t long! Trucking industry leaders are already pushing back on a few components of the Trump Administration’s expected infrastructure plan. A leaked White House memo revealed the administration’s intent to encourage states to raise funds by increased tolling and commercializing rest areas. National Association of Truck Stop Operators President Lisa Mullings reacted by saying they are “extremely disappointed.” American Trucking Associations president Chris Spear also expressed dismay saying, “We have serious concerns about the unintended consequences of tolls.”

Perhaps most upsetting to many trucking stakeholders though is the plan’s omission of a fuel tax increase. ATA has called for a 20 cents-per-gallon fuel increase over 10 years they say will raise 340 billion dollars. After helping President Trump deliver the largest tax cut in U.S. history, it appears ATA and President Trump may have to agree to disagree on the best ways to fund future infrastructure projects.
